US export sales for week ending 09/19/2002
Hides and Skins: Net sales of 430,500 pieces were 15% over the prior week and 7% over the 4-week average. Whole cattle hide sales of 348,500 pieces were primarily for South Korea (113,600 pieces), Taiwan (77,500 pieces), and China (57,600 pieces). Exports of 461,900 pieces were down 3 percent from the prior week and 8 percent from the 4-week average. Whole cattle hide shipments of 370,200 pieces were destined mainly for South Korea (115,300 pieces), China (85,000 pieces), and Hong Kong (40,500 pieces).
Net sales of 47,600 wet blues were 18% over the prior week, but 43% below the 4-week average. The primary buyers were Italy (19,300 unsplit), South Korea (6,500 unsplit), Mexico (6,500 grain split), and Spain (6,300 grain split). Exports of 81,500 hides were 35% below the previous week and 20% below the 4-week average. The primary destinations were Hong Kong (18,500 unsplit), Italy (15,500 unsplit), Mexico (10,900 grain split and 3,300 unsplit), and South Korea (8,500 unsplit and 5,300 grain split). Net sales of splits totaling 33,600 pounds resulted as increases for China (45,000 pounds), South Korea (7,000 pounds), and Mexico (1,100 pounds) were partially offset by decreases for Hong Kong (19,500 pounds). Exports of 915,600 pounds were up 62%from the previous week, but down 24% from the 4-week average. The destinations were Hong Kong (365,500 pounds), Italy (225,000 pounds), South Korea (190,000 pounds), and Mexico (135,100 pounds).
