Sales of cured cattle hides for the period ending January 12 were 564,200 pieces. The figure for exports of wet blue was 63,400 pieces.
The most recent hide prices provide prices for two types of steer hide at three price points, with prices at $24 for heavy Texas steers weighing 74-78 pounds and $19 for the same type at weights of between 60 and 62 pounds. Branded Colorado steers weighing 66-68 pounds were $22. New prices for cow hides have continued to be slow to emerge in the new year. The most recent show levels of $13 for northern dairy cows, $12 for southwest dairy cows, $8 for northern branded cows and $7 for southwest branded cows. Cow hide weights in each case were 50-52 pounds.
