In the first seven months of 2022, US slaughterhouses processed almost 19.5 million head of cattle, an increase of 1.2% year on year.

The most recent steer hide prices provided prices for nine types of hide, with prices of $30 for heavy Texas steer hides weighing a minimum of 72 pounds, $29 for branded steers weighing 62-64 pounds, and $25 for Colorado branded steers at 64-66 pounds. At the lower end, there were prices of $8 for branded south-west cows of 50-52 pounds and $9 for branded cows of the same weight.
