Offer lists in the big packer trade at the start of last week appeared as if they were a bit more populated than the past couple of weeks, accompanied by reports that some packers had a full complement of selections. The majority opted to leave asking prices unchanged with the past few weeks, while there were a few isolated reports of some packers attempting to pass on incremental increases on some of tanners’ favourite selections.
As to interest last week, there appeared to be a few more bids than the previous week, leading to thoughts there were probably more hides changing hands than the week prior.
Reports from the cowhide trade last week, many producers appeared as if they had a full complement of offers. Most were content to leave asking prices alone, insisting that they could not afford to lower prices on some of their lower-grade selections or the hides would have had no value.
There is a likelihood that we will see offer lists a bit more populated as it is widely agreed that there was more interest last week. We find it difficult to imagine that sellers will adjust their asking prices and look for most to start this week with the mindset of attempting to hold prices as close to steady as possible.
