After the first day of the APLF exhibition, veterans of numerous fairs called it the worst day one of any fair they have attended. Attendance in the morning was dismal and although things picked up around lunchtime as many expected, even a flurry of visitors had many members of the trade questioning why they bothered to attend.

Meanwhile, the consensus of those who travelled to Asia prior to the show share that they had a difficult time convincing customers to pay steady levels with last week, while many shared if they were willing to accept prices $2-$3 lower that they could see a fair number of hides. In the meantime, sources shared that they were somewhat surprised by the inventory levels of tanners they visited, while many sellers report idle drums of tanners they visited ranged from 25%-50% depending on the tanner.

Members of the European, Australian and Brazilian trade laid claims to similar reports and we are not aware of too many sellers willing to boast of having a successful day one of the fair. With regard to sales, we are of the opinion that many sellers were quietly accepting lower levels towards the end of last week and these suspicions were able to be confirmed at APLF, although it took us a decent amount of favours to get sources to “talk”. Trading Report is quoting regular weight HTS $94, while sales of BS reported at a dollar better at $95. We also have HNS sold at $102, while sales of BBS reflect levels of $101, while we have sales of CBS checking in at $92.50.
