US export sales for week ending 6 January 2011

Hides and Skins: Net sales for the 2011 marketing year (which began Jan. 1) were 499,100 pieces, including whole cattle hides of 495,900 pieces. The major buyers of whole cattle hides were China (273,200 pieces), South Korea (70,800 pieces), unknown destinations (57,400 pieces), Mexico (27,900 pieces), and Vietnam (14,900 pieces). Sales of 2,912,600 pieces, including 3,537,900 pieces were outstanding on Dec. 31 and carried over to the 2011 marketing year. Exports of 15,700 pieces—all whole cattle hides—were reported for Dec. 31, with the primary destinations of South Korea (8,600 pieces), Taiwan (3,500 pieces), and Mexico (2,300 pieces). Accumulated exports of hides and skins for 2010 were 23,939,200 pieces, down 10% from the prior year’s total of 26,678,500 pieces. Exports for Jan. 1-3 of 330,300 pieces, including whole cattle hides of 325,700 pieces, were primarily to China (140,400 pieces), South Korea (120,400 pieces), Taiwan (27,500 pieces), Hong Kong (18,900 pieces), and Mexico (5,000 pieces).

Wet Blue: Net sales of wet blues for the 2011 marketing year (which began Jan. 1) totaled 70,700 hides. The main buyers were China (27,500 unsplit), Thailand (16,800 grain splits), and Mexico (12,600 grain splits). A total of 190,600 hides were outstanding on Dec. 31 and carried over to the 2011 marketing year. Exports of 16,000 hides were reported for Dec. 31, with the primary destinations of Italy (7,200 unsplit and 2,600 grain splits), Germany (3,600 grain splits), and Mexico (1,900 grain splits). Accumulated exports of wet blues totaled 7,168,500 hides, up 22% from the 5,899,100 hides exported during the 2010 marketing year. Exports for Jan. 1-6 were 98,600 hides with the primary destinations of China (41,200 unsplit), Italy (29,400 unsplit), Mexico (6,900 grain splits), and Taiwan (4,900 unsplit). Net sales of splits totaled 107,400 pounds for the 2011 marketing year was for South Korea. Total sales of 835,400 pounds were outstanding on Dec. 31 and carried over to the 2011 marketing year. There were no exports of splits reported for Dec. 29-31. Accumulated exports of splits totaled 28,141,500 pounds, up 42% from the prior year’s total of 19,800,100 pounds. Exports of 100,000 pounds were reported for Jan. 1-6 was for Hong Kong.
