New CEO to lead next phase of growth at SICIT

SICIT Group, the Italian specialist tannery waste processor, has appointed Sergi Barrull as chief executive officer, succeeding Massimo Neresini, who has worked at the company for nearly 40 years, including approximately two decades as CEO.

Mr Barrull joined SICIT as general manager in July 2025 and will lead its next phase of growth, with plans to expand in North and South America while developing its established markets in Europe and Asia.

Based in Arzignano, Italy, SICIT processes tannery waste to produce collagen-derived peptides and amino acids for agricultural biostimulants and industrial applications. Its technology is also used to produce bio-based additives for gypsum and plasterboard manufacturing.

The company said its future innovation strategy would focus on three technology areas: collagen-derived peptide fractions, Patagonian seaweed extracts and Moringa-based botanical ingredients.

Mr Neresini joined SICIT in 1988 as a chemical engineer and played a key role in developing its hydrolysis technology and expanding its activities into agriculture and industrial applications.

SICIT estimates that its products are now used on more than 30 million hectares worldwide. It also estimates that its approach to processing residues avoids approximately two million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually.

Mr Barrull said the company would build on its technical expertise while strengthening its commercial capabilities and accelerating the development of solutions for customers.
