Henkel gets EU clearance for Stahl acquisition
The European Commission has approved Henkel’s acquisition of sole control of Dutch specialty coatings company Stahl.
The €2.1 billion transaction, announced by Henkel in February, will bring Stahl’s portfolio of industrial coatings into Henkel’s Adhesive Technologies business. Stahl’s products include leather finishing coatings, packaging coatings and performance coatings.
The European Commission said the transaction would not raise competition concerns because it would have a limited impact on competition in the markets in which the companies operate.
The Commission’s filing identifies Stahl’s main customer markets as mobility, including automotive and mass transportation, packaging, fashion and lifestyle, and home furnishing. Henkel is active in adhesives, sealants and functional coatings for industrial customers.
Stahl employs around 1,700 people and generated adjusted sales of approximately €725 million in 2025. Henkel said in June that the acquisition was expected to close during the second half of 2026.
