Leathergoods designer is glad of ChatGPT tip-off

Leathergoods designer Yasu Michino was a guest speaker at the 2026 Sustainable Leather Forum in Paris on September 7.

Originally from Japan, Mr Michino has been based in the French capital for 22 years and launched his own leathergoods brand, Michino Paris, 12 years ago.

He told the audience at the Sustainable Leather Forum that one of the qualities he most admires among his customers is inquisitiveness. He made it clear that this includes inquisitiveness about the material he uses in his products, high-end leather from French tanneries.

He said: “Just this morning, a customer came into the boutique and told me she had found us thanks to ChatGPT.”

Mr Michino (pictured) explained that the customer had stipulated to the artificial intelligence chatbot that she wanted to find a Paris-based leathergoods brand that was less well known than the most famous names. She also stipulated that it must be a brand that places great emphasis on product quality.

“And she came to us,” he said, “thanks to ChatGPT. This was something that I found very interesting.”
