The president of the International Council of Tanners, Bekir Burak Uyguner, has said the relationship between leather manufacturers and suppliers of hides and skins has changed in the last five or six years. 

Speaking to the audience at the Sustainable Leather Forum on September 7, Mr Uyguner said: “Somehow, the fashion industry has decided not to use as much leather as it used to. Now, with a total of 300 million cattle hides becoming available every year, I am in no doubt that there are too many hides for too few customers.”
