Eighth Sustainable Leather Forum paves the way for collective action
This year’s Sustainable Leather Forum took place in Paris on September 7. This was the eighth edition in the history of the event.
Director general of leather and footwear research and testing institution CTC, Maud Rascle, said at the end of the conference that she was convinced that the international leather was facing a moment of significant change.
But she said she remained optimistic because she said the discussions that had taken place at the Sustainable Leather Forum had convinced her that there were opportunities to for the industry to take “as one” the steps it needs to take.
Discussions on the day focused on subjects such as durability, consumer perceptions of leather, current trends in livestock farming and raw material supply.
The president of Alliance France Cuir, Christophe Dehard, insisted that some of these discussions would have been difficult to raise a few years ago.
He added: “We still have some obstacles to overcome, but people in different parts of the leather value chain understand one another better now. I am convinced that there are good opportunities ahead of us, if we are able to seize them.”
