The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) has launched Ranchers First Initiative, a package designed to help rebuild the American beef herd, which sits at a 75-year low.

Tools include the new Beef Retention and National Development endorsement for Livestock Risk Protection, which will allow producers to insure the economic value of retaining a heifer for breeding over a two-year period.
