EU bio-based alliance brings leather recognition into focus
A new European initiative to stimulate demand for bio-based materials could provide a further context for the leather industry's calls for recognition of leather within EU bioeconomy policy.
The European Commission launched the Bio-based Europe Alliance on October 21, with the aim of mobilising €10 billion in corporate purchasing commitments for bio-based materials and products by 2030. Its target markets include bio-based fibres and fabrics, plastics and polymers, chemicals and construction products.
