France fines Boohoo over leather-related product claims

French consumer watchdog the Directorate-General for Competition, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Prevention (DGCCRF) has fined online fashion retailer Boohoo €2.3 million for misleading commercial practices on its French website.

The regulator said its investigation found irregularities in advertised discounts and also identified instances where synthetic products were described using terms associated with leather, including “leather” and “suede”.

The DGCCRF said the issues related to products offered for sale between October 2023 and February 2024. Boohoo said it had cooperated with the investigation and that the practices identified have since been corrected.

The fine forms part of wider French enforcement action against misleading retail marketing and product labelling practices.
