New support package for Uzbekistan leather sector
Uzbekistan's President, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, recently signed a resolution introducing new measures to support finished goods production in the country’s leather and footwear sector and increase exports.
Targets for 2027 include leather production of 8 million square metres, footwear output of 115 million pairs and exports of US$150 million, up from US$110 million in 2026.
The package includes subsidies for producers, support for imported shoe lasts and moulds, retail rental reimbursements and tax exemptions for leather and wool raw material collection until July 2029.
It also establishes a new industrial zone management body with US$23 million in capital, alongside funding for wastewater treatment, infrastructure and training programmes for sector specialists starting October 2026.
