Minister says EU ‘unfair competition’ claims are groundless

Commerce minister, Wang Wentao, has said accusations from the European Union of unfair competition from China are without foundation.

During an official visit to the European Union in early June, Mr Wang said fair competition was essential for good international relations, but that this must be based on multilateral rules, with the World Trade Organisation at the core.

His comments came in the context of provisional tariffs on imports into the EU of Chinese-made battery electric vehicles and other products.

“Fair competition should focus on promoting openness, cooperation, and mutual benefit instead of excluding others and building small circles,” the Chinese minister said.
