New Zealand drops methane plan

11/06/2024
The New Zealand government has ended a plan announced by the previous government to charge farmers for their gas emissions from the end of 2025, in a bid to curb global warming.

However, the plan was unsurprisingly unpopular with cattle farmers, some of whom said it would make their business unprofitable.

The government plans to set up a Pastoral Sector Group instead, to find other ways to reduce methane.
