French buyer for The Cambridge Satchel Company
Paris-based group Chargeurs has acquired leathergoods brand The Cambridge Satchel Company, describing it as “a high-profile brand with considerable potential to move upmarket”.
Created in 2008 by Julie Deane, The Cambridge Satchel Company designs, manufactures and distributes a range of high-end leather bags and satchels. It employs more than 60 people and has its own manufacturing facility near Leicester.
Chargeurs chief executive, Michaël Fribourg, said he admired the know-how in manufacturing, marketing and digital distribution already evident in the team at The Cambridge Satchel Company and said he was confident the brand would contribute to the group’s growth in the luxury market.
He explained that Chargeurs prided itself on being able to identify “authentic, high-potential assets” and was committed to supplying these companies with the resources “to move upmarket and internationalise their business presence”.
The group is the owner of another UK leathergoods brand, Swaine Adeney Brigg.
