Grain-fed cattle hits a 20-year high in Australia
Red meat promotions body Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA) has said 47% of the cattle that went to slaughter in Australia in the first quarter of 2021 was grain-fed. MLA said this was the highest proportion in 20 years.
It said a total of 1.4 million head of cattle had gone to slaughter in Australia in the first three months of this year.
Of these, around 665,000 head had come from feedlots, giving grain-fed cattle a 47% share. MLA said there was “continued confidence of the lot feeding industry” in Australia.
