‘Deforestation-free’ in ten years, Marfrig promises
Beef and leather manufacturing group Marfrig has pledged to have a “deforestation-free production chain” within ten years.
The company has said it will invest almost $100 million on sustainability initiatives by 2030. One of its main objectives is to preserve biomes in different regions of Brazil, especially the Amazon biome.
It has launched a new plan called Verde+, from the Portuguese word for green. Through this, it will aim to make sure that 100% of its supply chain is sustainable and without connections to deforestation.
At the time of launching Verde+, Marfrig founder, Marcos Molina dos Santos, said: “We are absolutely convinced that there will only be a promising future for those who embrace sustainability.”
