Zambia exotic leather tannery delayed

The crocodile farming sector has suffered problems recently in Zambia.

According to reports from the latter, while its government has been making encouraging statements, claiming that it is prioritising Zambia’s leather sector, the reality is that it has placed a 10% export duty on leather articles, putting the industry at a distinct disadvantage.

This has also had the effect of delaying plans for a new exotic skin tannery. According to the Zambia Crocodile Farmers, export of skins has fallen from 66,000 pieces in 2015 to an estimated 22,000 last year.
