Customers react well to ostrich leather merger
The managing director of newly formed ostrich leather producer, Cape Karoo International, François de Wet, has said customers have reacted well to its launch.

Two producers, Klein Karoo International and Mosstrich, announced a merger in July 2018. However, competition authorities in South Africa raised objections and the proposal was in doubt and a tribunal gave it the green light in August this year.

The newly merged operator presented its first combined ostrich leather collection at Lineapelle in Milan in October, which, Mr de Wet said in recent comments to S&V African Leather, brought a positive reaction from customers.

He said the merged company was able to supply a wider range of finishes and colours and had a stronger raw material base. He added that one high-end leathergoods brand had already sent representatives to South Africa to examine Cape Karoo International’s facilities in Oudtshoorn and Mossel Bay and had noted the availability of a higher volume of skins.
