PTA raises export duty question with China’s consul general in Pakistan

13/11/2014
The Pakistan Tanners Association (PTA) has asked the consul general of China in Pakistan, Ma Yaou, to review the terms under which its members are able to export leather to China.

Former PTA chairman, Gulzar Firoz, to Mr Ma that terms of a free trade agreement between the two countries meant tanners in Pakistan ought to be able to export semi-finished and finished leather to China duty free. But he said tanners’ experience was that customs authorities in China were still applying duty charges of as much as 10% on shipments of leather from Pakistan.

Mr Ma promised the PTA he would look into the matter.
