Pakistan: leather garment exporters demand tax rebates

29/07/2014
Pakistan’s leather garments exporters claim the government owes them a combined total of 2 billion rupees in customs duty and sales tax rebates and have called on the government to take action to “unblock” the payments.

Companies earning export revenues are entitled to rebates on tax and duties, but the bureaucracy involved is slowing up the process, Pakistan’s Leather Garments Manufacturers & Exporters Association (PLGMEA) has said.

The organisation has warned that some manufacturers will be unable to continue production unless they receive the money they are owed before the end of September.
