Moda Made in Italy offers “boost in uncertain market”

Italian footwear manufacturers’ association Assocalzaturifici has said it was pleased with the turnout at its Moda Made in Italy event, which took place in Munich from October 6-8. This was the first autumn edition of the event since a decision taken last year to move the dates from September.

Assocal said 1,600 visitors attended over the course of the three days, which it said was in keeping with the figures for the September 2016 edition. In total, 115 footwear companies travelled from Italy to take part (five fewer than last autumn), representing 230 brands.

The organisation’s vice-president for Europe, Giovanna Ceolini, said these are difficult times for the high-end footwear market in Germany and that she was pleased Moda Made in Italy had been able to give specialist small and medium-sized footwear retailers there a boost.

“This is not a particularly favourable moment for the market,” she said. “There is great pressure on prices, provoking a general climate of caution in the footwear business community.”
