Automotive group BMW has revealed it will invest $600 million between 2018 and 2021 in its plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina, which it describes as its “largest manufacturing facility”.

The plant is responsible for building the BMW X models. It is currently preparing to start production of the BMW X7, which will be launched in the market in late 2018.

In its announcement, BMW said it had invested a total of $8 billion in the Spartanburg facility since announcing the decision to build it in 1992.

The plant currently employs 9,000 people and BMW has committed to creating a further 1,000 jobs there by 2021.
