Rinspeed has developed a new concept car, the Oasis, for 2017 and chief executive, Frank Rinderknecht, has already said his team has devoted a high level of attention to the interior, in partnership with Stahl.
He said on announcing the new project: “It’s no secret that leading experts forecast an automotive future where car interiors are becoming the heart of the car. As people are spending a lot of time in their cars, this inspired us to radically rethink the interior.”
The interior of the Oasis has white leather upholstery tanned using Stahl products in, the chemicals manufacturer has insisted, a sustainable way. It has armchair-style seating.
The global marketing director for the automotive sector at Stahl, Stefan Buri, said at the time of the announcement: “The interior of the Rinspeed Oasis concept car is all about innovative and sustainable solutions that inspire and surprise the user.”
He explained that the leather used in the car was tanned with Stahl’s EasyWhite Tan technology, giving Rinspeed leather that is chrome-free and has “the sustainability credentials” of having been produced using reduced water, salt and energy.
Stahl went on to describe the leather as having high elasticity, making it flexible, tear-resistant and versatile, enabling automotive companies to use thinner and lighter leather than ever.
