Fourth Tannery of the Year programme: China finalists announced
World Leather magazine has named the finalists for China in the fourth Tannery of the Year programme.

From a total of ten candidate tanneries for China, two have emerged as finalists. A group of industry experts nominates tanneries in each of five global territories for their performance against the Tannery of the Year corporate social responsibility criteria.

The purpose of the competition is to highlight and make public the best examples in the global leather industry of tanneries that, in addition to making beautiful leather, look after the environment, take good care of their employees, work closely and fairly with local and national authorities, are economically sound, committed to innovation and quality, and who have established strong partnerships with customers and suppliers.

We can reveal that the two finalist tanneries for China this time are, in alphabetical order:

- Henan Prosper, Mengzhou City, Henan Province, and
- Zhejiang Mingxin Automotive Leather, Jiaxing, Zhejiang Province.

In-depth reports on the work of both tanneries will appear in the June-July issue of World Leather and both will go forward to take part in the final, which will take place in Shanghai on September 3, 2014. We congratulate Mingxin Leather and Henan Prosper for their success so far and wish them good luck as the competition continues.

After this, the attention of Tannery of the Year will turn to Africa.

World Leather is grateful for the important backing Tannery of the Year has from sponsors BASF, Buckman and Lanxess, and the support of the International Council of Tanners, the International Union of Leather Technologists and Chemists Societies and the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation, as well as from the APLF exhibition.
