Burberry’s performance for the first half of its business year for 2013-2014 (April-September 2013) produced revenues in excess of £1 billion, the first time the company has broken the £1 billion barrier in the first six months of any year.

Adding wholesale revenues to the previously announced retail figures, total revenue reached £1.03 billion. This represents growth of 17% compared to the first half of 2012.

Accessories accounted for 37% of total revenue in the first half, showing growth in its own right of 9%, the company said. Men’s accessories accounted for one-fifth of all accessories revenue, meaning there was growth there too for Burberry.

Outgoing chief executive, Angela Arhendt, said in a statement on November 14: “We are proud to announce a first-half performance that saw revenue exceed £1 billion for the first time, reflecting the continuing strength of our global brand momentum.”
