Mulberry’s woes continue with departure of creative director

The announcement that Mulberry’s creative director is to leave has wiped £40 million of the company’s stock, according to analysts, as the leathergoods company prepares to report its 2012 results.

Emma Hill had been credited with boosting the brand in her five-year tenure with best-selling handbags named after allegiances such as British TV presenter Alexa Chung and US singer Lana del Ray.

However, the company has not fared as well of late, issuing a number of profit warnings. At Christmas it said Chinese tourists had not been buying enough products at Mulberry's main London stores, while international sales had also suffered.

Mulberry will report its full-year results on Thursday, with sales forecast to fall 2% and profit by a quarter.

"Mulberry confirms that Emma has informed the company that she wishes to leave after a very successful period at Mulberry during which she has built a strong and talented creative team working for her," said Mulberry.
